Mammograms may not be enough to detect breast cancer in dense breasted patients. Laura Dean, M.D. a breast radiologist at the Cleveland Clinic states that “It’s really important that supplemental screening is done on top of a mammogram.” When discussing ultrasound Doctor Richard Reitherman, who is the medical director of breast imaging at MemorialCare Breast in California, says “It doesn’t have any radiation and it can find more cancer in a dense breast than a mammogram.”
