More than 40 percent of women have dense breast tissue, which simply means their breasts have more glandular and fibrous tissue.  Due to this it becomes more difficult to see cancer on a mammogram as cancer shows up white and the dense tissue is also white.  Think trying to find a snowball in an avalanche.  Slowly legislation is sweeping the United States that requires physicians to notify their patients of the breast density allowing for them to have further testing to find smaller cancers sooner.
